The air conditioning system is not maintenance-free and requires regular cleaning and disinfection. In modern conditions, the vehicle’s ventilation and air conditioning system can become a potential source of transmission for viruses and bacteria. Studies show that microorganisms, including viruses similar to COVID-19, may survive on surfaces for up to 80 hours.

One of the most effective disinfection methods is ozone treatment. Ozone, also known as “active oxygen,” is a gas that penetrates even the most difficult-to-reach areas inside the vehicle and air conditioning system. It has strong disinfecting properties, eliminating unpleasant odors as well as fungi, bacteria, and viruses.

The MARELLI M-MX ozone generator produces ozone (O₃) by ionizing atmospheric air. As a powerful oxidizing agent, ozone effectively removes contaminants present in the vehicle cabin. It also helps reduce moisture, which commonly accumulates on floor carpets and in the air conditioning evaporator.

With a high output of 4000–5000 mg/h, the device is ideal for both large spaces (such as buses) and standard passenger vehicles, allowing faster and more efficient disinfection.

Ozone occurs naturally in the atmosphere, where it is formed from oxygen under ultraviolet radiation. It is heavier than air, unstable, and decomposes quickly—especially with increased temperature, humidity, and air pollution.

The ozone generator is made of stainless steel, ensuring high resistance to corrosion. Inside, it is equipped with a high-performance quartz ozone cell with a lifespan of at least 8000 hours, which translates into several years of operation and up to approximately 15,000 disinfection cycles.

Using uncertified ozone-generating devices may expose users to legal consequences, including fines and orders to withdraw the equipment from use issued by regulatory authorities.
